How would you like to literally feel brand new?
While the standard body treatment at a day spa is the relaxing massage, body scrubs and body wraps cleanse, exfoliate, detoxify, hydrate and rejuvenate your skin, leaving it baby soft and velvety smooth.
Day Spa Body Scrubs
The most common day spa body treatment is the salt glow, which is a sea-salt body scrub. Your spa professional rubs a medley of sea-salt, oil, and aromatics into your skin. This treatment exfoliates your skin and removes the outside layer of dead skin cells. Once the application process is finished, you'll be covered with a thin sheet of plastic and left to lie back and relax. Your day spa professional will return in about 20 minutes and rinse off the scrub mixture, ending with an application of body lotion that leaves your skin feeling feather soft and smooth as silk.
Aside from sea salt, body scrub ingredients may include strawberries, willow bark, grape seeds, lufa particles, or natural sugars combined with zesty citrus aromatics like lemon or orange, herbal scents of rosemary, peppermint, or eucalyptus, or alluring fragrances like lavender, almond or ginger. Some ingredients are fairly abrasive, so if your therapist scrubs too hard, just tell him/her since your comfort is always your day spa's main concern.
Body scrubs are usually conducted in your day spa's wet room as you lie back on a wet table or a massage table that's draped with a sheet or towel. You'll also most likely be given the option of wearing a pair of disposable underwear and/or a towel to cover exposed areas until they are treated.
Since scrubs are very invigorating, a massage after a scrub is especially relaxing. Although body scrubs aren't a part of regular massage, you may be able to combine the two as you wait for the mixture to soak into your skin or your massage therapist may give you a scalp massage as you wait to rinse. Be sure to ask when you book your appointment!
Day Spa Body Masks
Your body scrub may be a prelude to another popular day spa body treatment, the body mask or body wrap. The body scrub exfoliates and rejuvenates your skin while the body wrap detoxifies, and can be used to stimulate your metabolic system or used to further hydrate your skin.
A body wrap begins with coating your entire body with a layer of "mud", algae, clay, cream, or seaweed. You're wrapped in a thermal blanket to keep you warm. You stay in your "cocoon" for about 20 minutes and then your wrap is rinsed off.
Body Treatment Rinses
Both body scrubs and body wraps end with rinsing off the product. Depending on your day spa, you may have several options for rinsing.
- You may step into a shower and self-rinse. If you do, don't use shower gel or soap. You'll want to conserve the wonderful aromatic effects of your treatment!
- Your therapist or aesthetician may rinse you with a hand held shower.
- Your day spa might have the option of a Vichy shower. The Vichy shower is a special five to seven headed shower that cascades water over you as you truly lie back in the lap of luxury!
